Writer. Academic. Dungeon Master. Lived in Alanya, Ankara, and for a time in Istanbul. Studied International Relations, Film & Television, and Creative Industries. Currently lives in London and works as an academic at King’s College London. Tuhaf Balıklar/Frightening Fishes (2026) is his debut novel. He is interested in subways, double-space, wireless technology, and the colours yellow and red.

Abdullah Orçun Can was born on 30 October 1990 in Alanya. He spent his childhood there, and youth in Ankara, where he studied International Relations. After completing a master’s degree in Film & Television in London, he worked in television journalism in Istanbul for three years before moving into academia. He completed his PhD on Netflix Narratives at King’s College London, where he currently works. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Digital Humanities, particularly in the areas of Digital Economy, Theories of New Media and Digital Storytelling. Alongside this, he worked for many years as a professional game master (Dungeon Master) specialising in tabletop role-playing games.
His debut novel, Tuhaf Balıklar/Frightening Fishes (2026), was published by Sel Publishing. His children’s books Gökyüzüne Düşen Kız/The Girl Who Fell to the Sky (2013), Yeryüzünden Gelen Adam/The Man Who Came from the Ground (2015), and Yeryüzüne Bakan Teleskop/The Telescope that Looks upto the Ground (2021) were published by Yapı Kredi Publishing. All three continue to reprint. In 2011, he received an honourable mention at the Memet Fuat Young Poetry Awards. His short stories and poems have appeared in publications such as Kafasına Göre Dergi and Marşandiz, while his essays and articles can be found on online platforms including Kayıp Rıhtım and Saat Farkı. In 2016, he translated Katherine Addison’s novel The Goblin Emperor for İthaki Publishing. He continues to develop television and streaming series projects.
Orçun Can currently lives in London with his partner. Alongside the texts he writes for various forms of media, he still frequently introduces the people around him to dungeons and dragons.
